DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) today announced final results
for its 2018 Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive, an initiative to help
those struggling with hunger and to promote the importance of eating a
healthy breakfast, especially for children who lose access to
school-based nutrition programs during the summer months.
Outlined below are some of the highlights from the week-long drive,
which was conducted earlier this month:
-
Over 225 facilities conducted local cereal collection and fundraising
campaigns, including Tenet’s acute care hospitals, outpatient centers,
call centers and corporate offices, along with non-Tenet hospitals and
companies.
-
More than five million servings of cereal were collected.
-
$380,000 in financial contributions were made, which includes a
$100,000 contribution from Tenet as part of the Company’s 2018
Challenge Grant.
-
Feeding America® and more than 100 local non-profit food banks and
pantries in communities served by participating facilities will
benefit from this year’s drive.
Ron Rittenmeyer, Executive Chairman and CEO of Tenet, said, “Giving back
comes naturally to our caregivers and colleagues, and we are grateful
for the effort that went into making the Cereal Drive a tremendous
success. We know our work is not done, and we remain steadfast in our
commitment to battling hunger and making a positive impact in our
communities through these and other efforts.”
Nancy Curby, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Feeding
America, said, “More than 41 million people in the United States face
hunger, including 13 million children. Hunger is an issue that impacts
every single county in our country and we are grateful for Tenet’s
support of our food bank network through its Healthy Over Hungry Cereal
Drive.”
Four executives served as Co-Chairs of the 2018 Healthy Over Hungry
Cereal Drive: Sally Hurt-Deitch, Tenet’s Chief Nursing Officer and Vice
President of Patient Care Services; Steve Mooney, President and CEO of
Conifer Health Solutions; Brett Brodnax, President and Chief Development
Officer of United Surgical Partners International (USPI); and Ann
Shimek, Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations at USPI.
On behalf of the Co-Chairs, Ms. Hurt-Deitch said, “Year after year, the
energy supporting the Cereal Drive is inspiring, and we are so proud of
our colleagues for rallying behind such an important campaign to fight
hunger in our local communities. We want to thank all participants for
helping to provide a healthy, well-balanced breakfast for thousands in
need, especially children.”
The Cereal Drive was launched in Detroit in 2010 by Pam Taurence, a
nurse at Detroit Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital of Michigan, and
the DMC Professional Nurse Council. Tenet expanded the drive nationally
in 2014 after Detroit Medical Center became part of the Tenet system.
Since 2014, more than 15 million servings of cereal and approximately $1
million have been donated to benefit thousands of children and others
struggling with the effects of hunger.
