Tenet Healthcare is pleased to announce that its nationwide Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive collected 3.2 million servings of cereal and nearly $310,000 for Feeding America® and its network of local food banks and pantries across the country.
The money collected includes a $100,000 Challenge Grant from Tenet to encourage financial donations, which are crucial to buying perishable items such as milk, fruit and lean protein that are essential for a well-balanced breakfast.
“The purpose of the drive is to help those struggling with hunger and to promote the importance of eating a healthy breakfast, especially for children,” said Dian Adams, Tenet’s chief nursing officer and executive co-champion of the drive. “We know that good health starts with good nutrition, and the Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive is a wonderful opportunity for us to help provide our friends and neighbors in need with a well-balanced breakfast. Thanks to the generosity of so many of our employees and others, the local organizations supported by our drive will be able to help thousands of people in need.”
During the week-long drive, 200 participating Tenet hospitals and other facilities, the company’s Conifer Health Solutions and United Surgical Partners International (USPI) subsidiaries, and other facilities encouraged employees, neighbors and community partners to donate money, boxes of healthy cereal and other healthy food items to benefit those struggling with hunger in their local community. These campaigns benefitted Feeding America® and more than 100 local food banks and not-for-profit organizations.
“The donations we collected during our Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive will help provide children and adults struggling with hunger with a healthy breakfast during the summer. We are extremely appreciative of the tremendous support of our dedicated colleagues and communities in this effort,” said Daniel Waldmann, Tenet’s senior vice president of Public Affairs.
“We are grateful to Tenet Healthcare and all of the participants of their Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive,” said Nancy Curby, senior vice president of Corporate Partnerships & Operations at Feeding America®. “Everyone’s collective efforts led to an impressive 3.2 million servings of cereal and nearly $310,000 being donated to our network of food banks. We know that summer is a particularly tough time for many food-insecure families because children can no longer rely on the schools for nutritious meals, putting an added burden on these families. Thanks again to Tenet for continuing the fight against hunger. We appreciate Tenet’s leadership in addressing this community health issue.”
